Job Description 

  • To deliver safe quality care for patients during their perioperative phase of care. To support and assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the Operating Department.

  • To lead and manage a team, coordinating staff training needs and resource requirements within a peri-operative function or surgical specialty.

  • Assist in the delivery of patient care.

  • Contribute to quality improvement.

  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of others and self.

  • Apply and promote best evidence based practice within own scope of practice.

  • Apply legislation, policies and procedures correctly.

  • Maintain knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensuring appropriate measures are taken in respect of Health and Safety for patients, relatives, visitors, hospital staff and contractors.

  • Achieve agreed objectives and demonstrating CHG behaviours at all time.

Assemble, check and prepare the appropriate surgical equipment, instruments, and consumables for a wide range of operative procedures.

Requirements

Ensure pathological samples for investigation are collected and dispatched to the lab efficiently and appropriately. Undertaking clinical measurements and tasks ensuring these are recorded accurately and appropriately in the clinical records. With appropriate training and competency these will include: 1. Phlebotomy 2. Urine testing 3. ECGs 4. BP/ Pulse, Rhythm/ Height, Weight, BMI 5. ABPM/ Cardiac event monitoring 6. Peak Flow Measurements/ Spirometry 7. NHS Health Checks 8. Flu/ Pneumonia and other adult vaccinations 9. B12 Injections 10. Clip/suture removal Basic wound care using approved dressings from the wound formulary
